MCK Associates Supports Wain Homes in Delivering 137 New Homes in Aughton
Aughton, Lancashire – MCK Associates is proud to be part of a transformative residential development in partnership with Wain Homes and Emery Planning. The project proposes the construction of 137 high-quality homes on a 13.7-acre site off Prescot Road, designed to meet the growing housing needs in West Lancashire.
A Vision for Sustainable Living
The development features a diverse mix of one- to five-bedroom homes, with 35% allocated as affordable housing. This initiative directly addresses the region’s housing shortfall, offering a blend of private and affordable homes in a thoughtfully planned community.
MCK Associates’ Role
MCK Associates led the architectural and urban design strategy for the scheme. Our team conducted a detailed site appraisal and developed a Design & Access Statement that reflects both the character of Aughton and the aspirations of future residents.
Key design highlights include:
- A context-sensitive layout that respects the surrounding landscape and built environment.
- Use of traditional red brick with buff detailing, blending local vernacular with modern design principles.
- A focus on walkability, green space, and community cohesion.
Planning Context
The site is designated as “Plan B” land under the local plan, meaning development is only permitted under exceptional circumstances. With West Lancashire’s housing supply currently at just 1.86-year supply – well below the required five – the project is seen as a vital contribution to local housing targets.
